Reimagining the Coliseum with Type

By Melissa on June 25, 2010

A recent google search for a school project lead me to this amazing letterpress printed poster designed by Cameron Moll and printed by Bryce Knudson of Bjørn Press. Moll spent 12 months and a total of 250 hours designing the image using characters from Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro as well as recreating glyphs from master calligrapher M. Giovambattista Palatino.

Here’s a close up of the image so you can see the detail that went into the design.

The poster is available for sale thorugh Moll’s Big Cartel site. If the poster is too much of an investment there will also be this beautiful section available in the future.

Moll also worked on a similar poster of the Salt Lake Temple, also available for sale.

Watch this video to see how the poster was printed and here more from the artist himself. This is a great video for those of you curious about polymer printing as it shows Knudson setting up the base and plate for printing on a Vandercook.
