Join me at the Pressbound studio this fall for letterpress and bookbinding workshops! No experience is necessary for any of my workshops and those with some printing experience are more than welcome (it’s a great way to get practice printing polymer plates on a platen press). All of my letterpress workshops are taught on a foot treadle operated Golding Pearl which is a platen style press and pictured to the left. Workshop size is kept small so I can spend lots of time giving each student one on one instruction and guidance.
Workshops take place in my studio on the first floor of the Porter Mill Building, 95 Rantoul Street in Beverly, MA, with free street parking or a five minute walk from the Beverly Depot commuter rail stop on the Newburyport/Rockport line. Please email me if you have any questions!
Be sure to sign up for my email updates to get first access to registration information.
P L E A S E N O T E : The Pressbound Studio will be closed for summer break August 13- August 28. If you register for a workshop during that time you will receive an email confirmation with further details on Friday August 29. Many thanks for your understanding!
Space is limited in each workshop and advanced registration is required. Be sure to click on “register now” below the workshop of your choice to secure a spot.
Antique Letterpress Plate Journals
An Introduction to Letterpress Printing and Saddle Stitch Bookbinding
Spend a day in my studio learning to letterpress print from antique metal plates and while binding palm sized journals. In this 4 hour workshop you will learn both the basics of letterpress printing from a metal plate and how to produce a saddle stitch bound journal. No previous letterpress or binding experience required! In the first half of the workshop you’ll print images from my collection of art deco style antique metal plates while learning the basics of letterpress printing on a foot treadle operated platen style letterpress. In the second half of the workshop you’ll learn how to bind saddle stitch journals and adhere your letterpress prints to the covers. The binding skills you learn in the workshop can be used on any saddle stitch book binding project you wish to work on at home. At the end of class you will take home several journals that you bound and printed as well as extra letterpress prints and materials to use on journals you can continue to practice making at home. Although you may want to keep them all for yourself, these journals make a great gift too!
Get a sneak peek of the journal workshop in this blog post.
